Materials and Print Quality

10. What materials do you use?

Material availability depends on the requirements of each project. Common 3D printing materials include PLA and PETG, which offer different characteristics and advantages.

PLA is popular for decorative items, models, prototypes, and general-purpose components. It's relatively easy to print and is available in a wide range of colours.

PETG offers good toughness and durability, making it a useful choice for many functional components and parts that may experience greater everyday use.

Other materials such as ASA or TPU can also be printed when specific properties such as temperature resistance or flexibility are needed.

We'll help you choose a suitable material based on the intended application, appearance, and performance requirements of your project.

11. Can I choose the colour of my 3D-printed item?

Yes, where the required colour is available.

We can discuss the available material colours before your order is confirmed. If a particular colour is unavailable, we'll let you know and can discuss alternatives.

Colour availability may vary depending on the material and current stock.

12. How strong are 3D-printed parts?

The strength of a 3D-printed part depends on several factors, including the material, design, wall thickness, print orientation, and printing settings.

PLA is suitable for many everyday applications, while PETG can offer greater toughness and impact resistance in suitable designs. Other speciality materials are availible for specific needs.

However, 3D-printed parts are not equally strong in every direction, and their performance depends on how they are designed and manufactured. If your component needs to withstand specific forces, temperatures, or environmental conditions, please explain its intended use before ordering.

13. Will my 3D-printed item have a perfectly smooth finish?

Not necessarily. Most FDM 3D prints are produced by depositing layers of material, so fine layer lines may be visible on the finished surface.

The visibility of these lines depends on the design, layer height, material, and printing settings. Some parts may also require support structures during printing, which can leave small marks when removed.

If appearance is particularly important for your project, let us know before ordering so we can discuss the available options.

14. How accurate are 3D-printed parts?

3D printing can produce detailed and accurate components, but the achievable accuracy depends on the printer, material, design, and printing conditions.

Small features, tight tolerances, and parts that need to fit together may require additional design consideration or testing.

If your component must fit an existing assembly or meet specific dimensions, please provide the relevant measurements and tolerances when requesting a quote.
